From Silos to Synergies: When EHSQ Meets Operations

    Speakers:
    • Malavika Tohani , Principal Analyst - Operational Excellence at Verdantix
    • Élie Mouzon , Chief Strategy Officer at Intelex Technologies

Integration and inclusivity are very important concepts for sustainable performance in Operational Excellence (OpEx) and underestimating the landscape and complexity of achieving this has both stalled and isolated OpEx within organisations in the past. An opportunity now exists for the EHSQ landscape given that the processes and technology in this space have faced the same handicap (silos) since inception and the challenges these silos present are a common barrier to overcome. An EHSQ solution that ‘plays well’ and is open to simple exchanges of data and intelligence has an advantage in an OpEx framework. Add to that a solution that is capable of driving ‘soft’ or less tangible programs such as engagement initiatives and its potential significantly increases. Studies have shown that high levels of engagement result in better safety performance; engagement is a critical element in achieving Operational Excellence and is known to positively impact productivity within organisations.

  • Workshop
    14:30-15:00

    Connected Road Safety

    Speakers:

Road safety is an industry wide challenge. The World Health Organization Global Status Report on Road Safety 2018 finds that road crashes cost the world well over USD $500B or 3% of GDP for most countries. Asset intensive, extractive and/or manufacturing industries, as well as the services sector, need to address this proactively to manage reputational risk, contractor and employee safety, operational and financial losses. Digital technologies such as fatigue cameras, telemetry systems and GPS tracking are appearing more and more in the workplace. While these are critical technologies, any single system or technology is not sufficient to mitigate road safety risks.

  • Workshop
    15:00-15:30

Creating greater visibility and control of contractor works

    Speakers:

The use of contractors is instrumental to any business, whether it be working on a large infrastructure project to undertaking planned or reactive maintenance. With relationships and works authorisation often taken place by multiple stakeholders across a business, controlling those works to ensure they are undertaken in a compliant and safe manner presents increasing risks and challenges.

With a £480m development programme underway, that runs alongside their day to day operations, which is not only complex but highly regulated, the challenges of managing contractor works at London City Airport (LCA) were ever increasing.

During this best practice workshop, Alcumus and London City Airport will share some of the challenges the airport faced with managing contractors and how they developed a software solution that is ultimately improving the control of contractor works and engaging stakeholders across their organisation.

  • Workshop
    15:30-16:00

A Dynamic View Of Risk: How Bowties Are Dissolving Risk Silos

    Speakers:

Bowties have been a gold standard in risk governance for decades, even if their use has been restricted to a few specialists working in offices far from the action. Now, thanks to the marriage of cloud + mobile + data, bowties have been liberated. Today, an effective bowtie can be created by anyone, in any industry, for any risk, anywhere. It is now possible to: share ownership for risk and achieve greater visibility and control, standardise conventions across all locations and support site specialisation, and automate quantitative models that recalculate risk ratings in real-time using input from critical control verification results. It’s never been easier to prioritise risk-based improvements, engage stakeholders, and ensure learnings are adopted across sites.

Moving Beyond Concept: Overcoming Barriers To ORM Digital Twin Adoption

    Speakers:

Digital Twins are the next big thing in Operational Risk Management (ORM) for their ability to help model and simulate the operational performance of industrial facilities. In fact, according to Verdantix, over 89% agree digital twins will transform the approach to operational excellence over the next five years. Asset-intensive operators have the most to gain from increased efficiency, safety, and productivity as a result of digital twin technology… they also have the most to lose.
