Saikat Dey is the co-founder and CEO of Guardhat, a multi-product, feature-packed intelligent safety system that integrates cutting edge wearable technology and advanced proprietary software into the traditional hard hat. Guardhat develops intelligent hard hats and wearables that continually monitor a user’s safety, health and work environment to alert them and notify others of potential hazards.
Prior to Guardhat, Dey served as the CEO of Severstal North America, a global metals and mining company. During his tenure, Severstal North America employed 2,500 workers and generated revenues of approximately USD $4 billion per year. Dey led the successful divestiture of these assets in September 2014 to AK Steel and Steel Dynamics for USD $2.3 billion.
Preceding Dey’s arrival at Severstal, he served as an Associate Principal in the Global Energy and Materials practice of McKinsey & Company. He is recognized as a thought leader on investment strategies, commercial optimization and operational improvement within the metals and mining industries.
Dey co-authored the book, “Uncommoditized,” an unconventional look at the way commodities markets work in today’s economy. He holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and an undergraduate degree in Mining Engineering from the National Institute of Technology in India.
