Richard Head is Global Head of Health, Safety, Environment, Communities and Security (HSEC&S) at Trafigura, a market leader in the global commodities industry and is based in Geneva.
He has been an HSE practitioner for 30 years, most of them in oil and gas companies. He has held operational and strategic roles in a varied international career including residential assignments in Kazakhstan and Egypt. Prior to joining Trafigura he was Head of Environment at Tullow Oil, an independent oil and gas exploration company with interests in Africa and South America. Prior to that Richard was Head of HSE Effectiveness and Environment at BG Group, a major integrated oil and gas company taken over by Shell.
During a varied, international career Richard has led HSE design and due diligence projects; held asset, regional and executive HSE roles; project managed complex Environmental Impact Assessments, aligned with IFC Performance Standards, obtained Equator Principle bank financing, achieved ISO14001 and 18001 certification for a number of facilities; led serious incident investigations; established corporate HSE management systems; set and achieved corporate HSE targets and developed and implemented Corporate HSE strategies. At Trafigura he is responsible for leading all aspects of the company’s Health, Safety, Environment, Communities and Security improvement programme.
Richard holds a first degree in geology from Oxford Brooks University, an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, University of London and recently completed a Sustainable Business Certificate course at Cambridge University.
