Survey Insight: Digital Training Solutions For Health And Safety Undergo Mainstream Adoption

Digital training solutions for environment, health and safety (EHS) have evolved rapidly over the past five years to become a differentiating factor for EHS software and consulting vendors. For example, the Health & Safety Institute (HSI) remains unique for its heritage in providing specialist materials, courses and programmes for emergency first responders. The HSI ‘Encompass’ platform combines the firm’s (2014-2018 acquisitions of CLMI Safety Training, SafeTec Compliance Systems, Summit Training Source and Vivid Learning Systems. As a result, HSI now offers cloud-based, configurable and mobile-accessible training courses for emergency care, workplace safety, health and safety services, and professional responders. Similarly, Convergence Training (now owned by Vectors Solutions) and SumTotal(now owned by Skillsoft) are both learning management system providers. The former offers 200-plus EHS courses designed specifically for industrial and manufacturing facilities; the latter offers training to cover 500-plus EHS-related risk areas through Skillsoft Compliance.

To learn more about this rapidly evolving market segment, Verdantix asked 411 EHS executives in our annual global survey the extent to which they would adopt various technology-supported training, learning and development solutions during 2019. The results show that 55% plan “wide usage across all operations” of learning management system and online training courses and webinars. The mainstream adoption of digital training solutions is good news for EHS platform providers. An example vendor is UL EHS Sustainability, which offers over 900 courses that are accessible in more than 11 languages and designed by in-house experts and third-party training specialists such as Vivid Learning Systems (now owned by HSI). Other vendors active in EHS training include Alcumus GroupDEKRADuPont Sustainable SolutionsQuenticVelocityEHS, and Wolters Kluwer, to name a few.
